Selection will be on a first-come first-serve basis. After receiving 10 completed applications,
additional applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

The application process includes two steps:

STEP I Teachers apply by sending:

  1. A letter stating their interest in the program
  2. The names and addresses of four Latino/a students who should be considered for participation
  3. A $20 application fee, which will be fully returned if the teacher attends the course or if he or she is not selected. The fee will not be returned if a teacher is selected but then cancels his or her participation and cannot be replaced before the course.

Mail application to:

Dr. Franco Biondi

STEP II Program Organizers, Teachers and Students:

The UNR program organizers will randomly select two of the four Latino/a students, contact them directly, and invite them to participate. The students' parents will be provided with bilingual enrollment information. If an invited student cannot attend the course, the invitation is extended to another student whose name was provided by the teacher. If none of the four students can accept the invitation, the teacher will be asked to provide additional names. All students' expenses will be covered.

An additional $100 reimbursement will be sent to each student after he/she attends the course.

GRADUATE COURSE CREDIT/GRADES:

Teachers who desire graduate credit (by enrolling in GEOG 691, 1 credit) but have not established status with the University's Graduate School, will need to complete a Graduate Special Application form. This will be done at UNR during the first day of the program. The one-time application fee and course credit cost to register for this course are covered by the National Science Foundation grant.

Both STEP I and STEP II need to be completed by May 1st. Late applications can be accepted if the course is not already full.
